Stunde Null in München
Within a very short space of time, a society of arrival was formed in Munich for Holocaust survivors and survivors of extermination, displaced persons and those uprooted, refugees and displaced persons, members of the American armed forces and Germans returning from exile. The new met the old, a social continuity that was largely shaped by the Nazis.
From today's perspective, the tasks of this newly forming society - that of our parents and grandparents - seem almost unmanageable.
How was it even possible to make a new start in Munich under these conditions?
How could a democracy grow?
The program “Zero hour? How we became what we are.” with more than 130 partners, would like to remind us of exactly that - in connection with the fears, hopes and achievements of all those people who tried to make a new start in Munich in 1945 and afterwards, which we can hardly imagine today.
